What Companies Are NOT Suited For Social Media?

In today’s Watch Me Wednesday video, Dave shares what type of companies may find social media ineffective. We’re strong believers that almost every company can benefit from social media, but to that rule there may be a few exceptions. Any corporation that might be considered a “bad” company by many people would fall under this category: companies that have qualities such as poor customer service, inconsistent morals and inability to listen. When a company can be identified by any one of these characteristics, they won’t get positive feedback from conversations through social media. These companies will most likely be bombarded with negativity on their page and they may not be able to answer back professionally. BP, for instance.
These are our thoughts, but we want to hear from YOU!

What type of company do you think wouldn’t benefit from social media?

    Good points, Dave.

I hope we can agree that successful engagement in social media is not as simple as assigning the task to a single person or department. It’s something that’s interleaved with all of a company’s communications and marketing. For some companies, that means new procedures. For others, it might require some heavy duty change in the corporate culture.

If company management has a “get a Twitter account and they will follow” posture — without goals for their social media engagement and a strategy to meet those goals — the company may end up doing more harm than good to its brand.

Social media should be strategic, consistent and persistent. Companies that can’t commit shouldn’t just be dipping their toes in the social media waters. On the other hand, they should determine what they need to do to “get social” — or risk getting left behind.

This is retarded. It is actually the dumbest video I have ever seen.

1st of all it’s not “WHAT” companies it’s “WHICH” companies.

2nd of all Tobacco companies, utilities, and airlines will all benefit from Social Media, they can monitor it to see what people are saying and dont HAVE to engage.

This is a sad excuse for a “social media guru” trying to start a company and tell people what to do. It makes you look like a complete monkey dave.

Pharma companies that have pled guilty to criminal charges for misbranding their products in advertising such as Allergan should NOT engage in social media for one year afterward — call it social media probation.

Thanks for your feedback, Neil and John. Good ideas both.
