by Kristen Malzone Big news in the world of ecommerce today! Amazon bought Woot, an online store and community that focuses on selling cool stuff cheap. The New York Times announced the start of a new era: Real-Time Social Shopping.
Although the agreement allows Woot to maintain its functional independence, this opens up a huge opportunity for Amazon to become more social. The Woot community has a huge following. They have over 1.5 million followers on Twitter (@woot) and the ecommerce giant (@amazon) has only 23,000 followers.
With this new acquisition, Woot will be able to offer its community members more through new categories, access to better products, and more valuable deals.
The minds behind Woot are a quirky, creative bunch and could potentially revive the success of Amazon. What do you think of this acquisition? Are you hoping for a more social Amazon?
