Foursquare, Facebook, Twitter, Groupon and other social sites have become the latest game changers for shopaholics everywhere. Below are a few of our favorite recent deals and steals:
The Gap: America's favorite Jeans supplier made social media headlines this week when its Groupon for a $50 gift certificate for $25 broke Groupon's sales record, selling more than 300,000 of the deal nationwide. Gap also has a wildly popular Foursquare special right now,which offers 25% off for a single check-in. This deal, which was also available through a Twitter discount code and Facebook printable coupon, gives Gap shoppers the chance to stock up on skinny jeans while keeping their wallet fat!
Another retailer offering discounts to its socially savvy shoppers is Ann Taylor. Check-in to any of their 8 NYC locations five times and receive a 15% discount. Become the mayor for 25% off. You may also remember Ann Taylor garnering social media praise a few months ago when they responded to Facebook complaints by having their real-life employees model on their Facebook page.
One more retailer (and full disclosure, a personal favorite of mine) using social media to drive sales is Urban Outfitters. Their Facebook page is frequently filled with exclusive sneak peaks to new merchandise and Facebook-only promo codes. Recently, they offered Facebook fans 15% off order of $75 dollars or more and also an exclusive "first dibs" on a $5 sale.
