In this week's Watch Me Wednesday, Dave discusses his biggest takeaway from SXSW 2011: CEO of SVNGR Seth Priebatsch's keynote speech on the "game-layer." While the social layer traffics in connections, the game layer traffics in influence. Seth believes that if the problems of the world were looked at as a game they would be solved easier ie global warming and schooling (which TechCrunch highlights in-depth here.)
In order to demonstrate how gaming can solve some of the world's problems, Seth had his audience participate in a game themselves. As Mashable states, "he leaned on the communal-play game dynamic and motivated the crowd to successfully complete a complex game in 180 seconds, the prize being $10,000 for the National Wildlife Foundation." This activity, as well as Seth's keynote as a whole proved the power of the game-layer in real life.
Can the entire world be looked at through the lens of game and gaming? Let us know in the comments! And stay tuned to our blog for more updates and key takeaways from SXSW 2011!
