Everyone knows about Twitter and Facebook but one of my personal favorite social media networks is #GetGlue! For those who may not know much about it, GetGlue is a social media app for everything entertainment. Users can check into their favorite TV shows, movies, books, video games, music artists and even podcasts from their phones, iPads, or computer! After you’ve checked in a certain amount of times or are watching a huge event, you can earn stickers! They are both virtual and real and users have the option of getting their stickers sent to them- totally free! You can join people in conversations about what you are watching and even share your thoughts on a movie you may have just seen.
So far, GetGlue may seem like a simple app that you can use for fun with your friends and have a sweet sticker collection from. If you are big brand, how can you use GetGlue to your advantage when trying to engage and connect with your community? Here are the top 3 ways GetGlue can work in your favor!
1- Let’s chat!
Thanks to the wonderful world of integrated social media, every time a user checks into a show, movie,etc. They have the option of being able to share it to their Twitter, Facebook and even Foursquare. What does this mean? It means that your community is connecting beyond the check in. They are letting everyone know what they are watching and doing! For twitter, this means that a tweet is automatically sent from their account and GetGlue attaches hashtags. One of the hashtags that is attached to these tweets is #GetGlue. When you are searching for people to engage with and start conversation with, you can Twitter search with this hashtag and see what everyone has been watching and talking about! Voilà! Just like that, you have immediate access to a world of conversation.

2-Who is my community?
Brands and big names spend thousands of dollars trying to tap into the mind of their demographic. They do everything from surveys to questionnaires, etc. They just want to be able to relate to them so that their consumer and customers have their brand on the top of their mind. With GetGlue, you are able to connect with your community and see what your demographic likes. That same 21 year old female who is a Super Fan of Friends and just unlocked her 7th Glee sticker (and proud of it!), is also the person that may be interested in what your brand has to offer. You are able to find our information about your demographics and connect with them like never before.
And last but not least,
3-Stickers, Stickers, Stickers!
When I was a kid, if you did something good in school, we would be rewarded with stickers. If you got a 100 on your spelling test- you got like 15 stickers. This type of theory is carried into adulthood with GetGlue. Being rewarded for something gives you more of an incentive to do it. If you are a publishing company and want to give people an incentive to buy a new book your company just released, why not create a sticker or a reward for checking in? People will be more likely to share with their friends and hopefully in return, their friends will pick up the book and share it as well. It’s an endless cycle of stickers and fun- who doesn’t love that?
