Instagram is one of the fastest-growing social media apps. Due to its rising popularity, brands are rapidly increasing their presence on the network. Because of the sheer number of posts, it’s easy for great content to get lost within the app. Brands need to think outside the box to increase engagement. Fortunately, there are some useful tips and tricks for brands to get the most out of their posts.

1. Consider Your Target Demographic

The first thing a brand must think about is its target demographic. If your brand’s intention is to speak to mid-to-high income adults who typically work nine to five jobs, it’s best to post after work when they will be most active on their phones. On the other hand, if your brand is targeting a younger demographic they are  more likely to be free throughout the day and late into the night. Understanding your target demographic and posting accordingly is important for any brand. 

2. There is an Overall Best Time to Post

According to the Latergramme team, 5:00 PM on Wednesday is the best time to post on Instagram. 5:00 PM is an optimal time since it’s the beginning of the evening rush hour commute. Users are likely to be scrolling through their social media feeds to catch up on what they’ve missed. This poses a great opportunity for brands to share relevant content. In general, every day at 5:00 PM is an optimal time to post, but Wednesday is slightly better than the rest of the week. 

3. People Post the Most on Thursdays 

Thursdays are a good time to post because of the amount of engagement for the popular hashtag Throwback Thursday. The hashtag Throwback Thursday is used for sharing photos from back in the day, or even from the previous week. It’s gotten so popular that celebrities have caught on! #ThrowbackThursday is a fun, successful way for brands to use nostalgia to connect with followers. 

4. The Most Interaction Occurs on Sundays

Although a large number of posts go up on Thursdays, it’s found that people interact the most on Sundays. People have plenty of free time during the weekend and can use it to catch up with their favorite brands. Sundays are useful in two ways — to show what’s planned for the upcoming week and to reflect on an eventful weekend. 

5. Post Videos During the Evening

If you post a lot of videos, be sure to focus on after work or school hours. Instagram users would rather avoid having loud, distracting sounds go off in a quiet environment. In order to avoid such occurrences, users are more likely to click a video on their own time. Whether it’s at home or with headphones during their work commute.

Although Instagram may seem like it's just an app for people to share their selfies and delicious food, there is much more behind it. Instagram is a great way to market your brand — when you do it well.
