By Allie Herzog

Unless you live under a rock you already know that today is a historic day.  When we’re old and gray we’ll look back on this day and tell our grandchildren exactly where we were when Zuck “remotely” rang the bell at the NASDAQ – OK maybe not, but you get the point.   Unless you’re a Facebook employee, Sean Parker, or Bono (did you know he owns 1.5% of Facebook??) you’re probably not raking in the millions today – so what does this IPO thing mean to you and me?  Read on for the lowdown! By Allie Herzog

I studied journalism in college more years ago than I’d like to admit and even then, I remember hearing the phrase “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” when referring to old-school journalists’ struggle to evolve in this ever-changing “new media” world.  Amidst the current social media revolution, journalists have no choice but to adapt and utlize new tools to gather and share news.  Journalists today must Tweet, Blog, Facebook, Instagram and more IN ADDITION TO reporting the news on TV, in the newspaper or wherever else their day job requires them to.  My own “old school” sports reporter dad recently started blogging and tweeting and I’ve been both fascinated and proud as he’s brought local high school sports to the community through hyper-local blogging and live tweets from the sidelines.  But all nepotism aside, here are three very different journalists using social media to change the way we get our news. By: Allie Herzog

If you are a frequent reader of this blog, you’re probably aware that we here at Likeable are firm believers in the “respond to every comment/never delete any comment” mantra.  What you may not know is that there ARE times when removing comments is acceptable and even recommended.  Several big brand Facebook pages feature a House Rules section or some other sort of disclosure.  This is a great way to ensure that your page is not only an open and interactive community of engaged fans but also a welcoming, non-discriminatory and spam-free place!  Below are a few reasons why you should consider adding some rules to your Facebook page as well as a few examples of brands that have done it right.
