You may or may not have heard about the giant silver stiletto that's been turning heads in Manhattan all week. Piperlime, an Gap Inc. online shoe store, has hired about fifteen girls to collect gently-used shoes from New Yorkers who just don't need them anymore.
The goal is to collect 15,000 shoes to donate to disaster victims in the U.S. and abroad. For each pair donated, Piperlime will match a $1 donation to their charity partner Soles4Souls (who will deliver the shoes to those who need them). As a way of saying thanks, anyone who donates their old shoes receives a $15 coupon toward a shiny new pair at Piperlime. Everyone benefits!
I have been there the last 2 days freezing my crazy arse off for 11 hours each day, but honestly, sometimes good feelings really can warm you up. This is definitely a good one. And well, it's also really funny watching people try to steal the shoes ;)
If you have any extra shoes you don't need (and sure, we all do), bring 'em on down to the Flatiron building at 5th Avenue/23nd Street. 8AM - 6PM Monday Dec 11th & Tuesday Dec 12th. You'll be rewarded! Look for the huge stiletto and the girls in white jackets. Maybe I'll see you there! Can't make it? Send them by mail! :)
GiveShoes.org - your extra pair could be someone's first pair!
Come on! 5 bees!
