Americans have been waiting anxiously for this month. Why? Everyone knows that the stimulus checks are being mailed later this week. Yes, you are excited, but beware and do not get too excited.

Retailers all across the nation are after your money!

What’s going on?

According to …

Wal-Mart is cashing these stimulus checks for free, no purchase required. Also, Wal-Mart is refunding the purchase fee on its Wal-Mart Money Card (a re-loadable prepaid Visa Debit card) when a portion of the economic stimulus is loaded on the card.

Sam’s Club are cashing the economic stimulus checks for free too. In addition, they are giving a bonus via a $40 gift of membership on select product purchases from May 11th-31st.

Grocery stores also want a piece of the action. SuperValu is offering $30 for every $300 in rebate checks that people exchange for a store gift card. This offer runs from May 2nd to July 31st. However, these cards cannot be used to purchase alcohol, lottery tickets, or tobacco products.

Kroger is adding 10% of the rebate check’s value when shoppers convert them in increments of $300 for Kroger gift cards.

Sears is offering a 10% bonus to people who convert their checks to Sears or Kmart gift cards. The cards can be redeemed at any Sears, Kmart or Lands End stores or online on their websites. This promotion is running from May 4th to July 19th.

Shoprite is also cashing checks without a free and will transfer it to a gift card with an additional 10% on the card.

Radio Shack customers who use their checks in amounts of up to $2,500 as a form of payment between May 4th and July 12th and make a minimum purchase of $50 will receive a 10% discount.

Staples is giving promotions for small businesses like no interest or payments for six months on certain purchases, or 10% off other purchases.

More promotions are probably underway.
