Did you know that today is International Translation Day? Being in social media and an online space that has no borders, language differences often come up whether with international brands or with customer segments of varied backgrounds. There are some great tools out there to help break down language barriers. Google announced their new translator widget for websites on their blog today. Webmasters can now add Google's new widget to their websites so visitors can immediately translate the page into any one of 51 languages offered. Once installed on your page, the widget determines your visitors' primary language by checking their browser's settings. If a visitor's default language is different than that published on your website, they'll see a toolbar appear at the top of the page with a prompt to translate the content. You can see what this might look like in these screencaps taken from Google's blog on the subject:
All Facebook reports that Facebook is also getting into the game with their Translations for Facebook Connect. The application enables users to translate content inline without having to go back to Facebook to view the translation, and can be added to any website in under an hour.
Free tools like these are useful for any brand or business, so definitely check them out! Now, in the spirit of the day, we'd like to sign off by wishing a very Happy Birthday to our CEO, Dave Kerpen - in as many languages as we speak in the office! Happy Birthday, Dave! :) Happy Birthday, Dave! :) (Canadian English) ¡Feliz Cumpleaños! 데이브 생일 진짜 축하해 ^ㅡ^ Bon Anniversaire! Alles Gute zum Geburtstag! ;-) デーブ、お誕生日おめでとうございます！(^0^)/
