2010 was a year of struggles and achievements. There were tragedies and milestones. We said goodbye to old friends and hello to new friends. And just like that 2010 flew by in an instant. Last year, we recapped The Top 10 Most Important Tweets of 2009 and received 3900+ ReTweets, including Alyssa Milano, Ashton Kutcher, and Larry King. With approximately 200 million users and over 25 billion tweets, Twitter has become a media outlet for the average consumer, the everyday celebrity, and the ambitious politician. Information has never traveled faster and been more transparent. This year, we present to you, The Top 10 Most Important Tweets of 2010.

Why it’s important: Astronaut Timothy Creamer (@Astro_TJ) is credited with the first live tweet from space. New software aboard the International Space Station made it possible to tweet in real time from space. Creamer wasted no time and posted the first live update from space. Technology that NASA has employed makes it possible for astronauts to connect with loved ones from space in a real time fashion.

Why it’s important: This year, MTV held a nationwide contest over three months to find the perfect tweeter. In August, MTV crowned it’s first ever Twitter Jockey (TJ). The title officially belongs to Gabi Gregg, a 23 year old plus size fashion blogger from Detroit. MTV plans to use the TJ to take the pulse of the viewers and to alter is programming accordingly.

Why it’s important: On December 2nd, Wikileaks.org went down around the world. WikiLeaks was inaccessible and had a rash of targeted attacks. Why it’s important: As one of this year's top Twitter trends and one of Barbara Walters' 10 Most Fascinating People of 2010, it should come as no surprise that Justin Bieber and his fans use up 3% of Twitter's server infrastructure at any given time. Curtis then continued to tweet that “most of the popular users on Twitter have dedicated servers for their accounts.” Twitter has officially caught "Bieber fever."

Why it’s important: Twitter has transformed the way the public receives and communicates information. Rapper Kanye West's apology refers to last year's VMA incident. West grabbed the mic from Taylor Swift as she accepted her award for best female music video, and directed the attention to Beyonce. Whether this was staged or not, this unforgettable incident was turned into an Internet sensation. For whatever reason, West used his Twitter stream as a means of communication to attempt to recreate his tainted brand image.
