3 Quick Things to Know About Meerkat

The latest social app to join the party is Meerkat, now Houseparty. Streaming on iOS devices, it streams live video to all of your Twitter followers at once. It’s kinda like FaceTime, except your audience is everyone.

It’s Mobile-Only

That means no fancy polished video. Brands are going to have to broadcast in a way that looks very similar to a laid back web cam.

It’s Not Censored

The app’s terms and conditions state, “[Y]ou may be exposed to Content that might be offensive, harmful, inaccurate or otherwise inappropriate.” This is a double-edged sword. Your brand will be able to post many things without being flagged offensive, yet users might stay away from accounts they’re unfamiliar with if nudity, obscene language, or offensive content become the norm for this app.

It Has Potential

Adventurous celebs and brands (like Jimmy Fallon and Vh1) are already hopping on board. If your key metrics involve awareness, this would be an app to consider.
