Instagram announced that they have officially switched on their advertising API, which means that Instagram API partners will be able to purchase ads easier than ever before. Gone are the days of hefty ad spends. So far, advertising has only been open to Instagram’s API partners, but it won’t be long before they roll out ads to more marketers and brands.
But why should marketers care about advertising on this platform in the first place? Here are 3 reasons why you should pay attention to the Big IG.
1. They have 300 million active users
Fortune Magazine reported that as of December 2014, the app’s total active user count had reached over 300 million. That’s more than 50 percent growth in 2014. What's even more impressive is that there are now 70 million photos shared each day and over 30 billion total on the network. That, my friends, is certainly nothing to sneeze at.
2. It’s a mobile-focused platform
Unlike most social media platforms, Instagram is first and foremost mobile-based. Instagram at its core is about taking and viewing eye-catching photos while on-the-go. Since Millennials and Gen-Xers inhabit this active lifestyle (and can always be seen on their mobile phones) this is a good platform for reaching them and getting your brand's message across as a marketer.
3. It has a higher engagement rate
Instagram is hands down the best platform for interacting with consumers. According to a study from izideo, engagement on Instagram is approximately 60 times higher than engagement on Facebook! For example, many brands receive 20, 30, or even 40 percent more comments on Instagram than they would if they posted the same image on another social media network.
In the coming months, more brands are going to devote advertising dollars to developing their Instagram strategy. As soon as advertising is available to all brands, this platform will become unstoppable. So what can you do in the meantime? It's important to build your audience on the network and focus on posting high-quality, visually stimulating imagery on a regular basis.
