Last week Snapchat revealed an exciting update. By introducing Memories, users now have a way to save Snaps and Stories to look back on. Appearing just below your Camera screen in the app, this new gallery allows you to search for favorite stories of past times.
What does this mean for the network? A few things.
- Users can utilize Memories to create new Stories from their own past Snaps. Snapchat cites this as a good way to celebrate an anniversary or birthday.
- You’ll finally be able to upload photos from your camera roll and edit them in Snapchat before sending.
- Unfortunately, a user can only save his or her own Snaps in Memories, not content shared by others. That means a screenshot is still the most effective way to know if branded content is being archived by fans.
The result? This is a step away from Snapchat being just an in-the-moment or real-time network. Now, users (and brands) will be able to have pre-prepared images seem natural, not forced.
The feature is rolling out selectively over the next month. See the look and feel of the feature in the video above.
